Short film made in in response \u2018To A Sense Of Place\u2019 MCAC (Millennium Court Arts Centre, Portadown, Northern Ireland) Open Submission Competition.<\/p>

As we become more technologically and economically advanced, we increasingly lose sight of ourselves as members of species within a complex ecology that includes all the worlds life forms which have their own right to place and existence.<\/p>

The quote \u2018In her heart she boasts, I sit as queen, I am not a widow and I will not mourn\u2019 <\/i>is a Biblical text from Revelations about the destruction of Heaven and Earth.<\/p>

This work suggests humankinds arrogance in our assumption that we are at the apex of the pyramid of life on earth. Like the prostitute of Babylon quoted in the text, we show wanton disregard in the face of environmental destruction.<\/p>

So-called lower life forms such as bees, frogs and birds are all threatened by humankinds domination of the environment.<\/p>

Yet they continue to forage for their place in the world, ironically often relying on manmade and artificial homes, for their continued existence.<\/p>

The work features Jean Blackstock an Afro-Caribbean English woman reciting the quote in English, Spanish and Patois in an Irish landscape. This suggests that even humankinds sense of place has become harder to define as, at the beginning of the twenty first century, it seems that we are out of place all too often.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
